Community Justice Alternatives (CJA) of Durham Region and Durham Community Mediation Program (DCMP) would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our Mediation Skills Training Program.

The program is designed to expose participants to a range of methods for resolving conflicts and the skills necessary to deal with or facilitate conflict management on a professional and personal level. Participants will study theory of conflict management and will then apply that theory to the development of practical mediation skills.

The course offers in depth training in skill building, including: communication and listening skills, dealing with anger, and the process of co-mediation.

This intensive three-day program provides participants with the hands-on opportunity to engage in mediations and acquire the skills used to assist parties with divergent interests to reach a resolution.

Through extensive role-plays, in which they will have the opportunity to be both the mediator and a party in a dispute, participants will learn how third-party intervention can resolve conflict in a wide variety of settings, from workplace and commercial to interpersonal and community disputes. Mediation role play exercises in which participants will be observed and coached by professional mediators will be an important component of the training.

Participants who successfully complete this 21-hour program will be awarded a Certificate of Completion from Durham Community Mediation Program.
